Into The Shadows — Game Session — 009

Game summary for November 26, 2019, Into The Shadows campaign, Shadowrun 5th Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Ballyhoo (Human Augmenter played by Andrew Renfrow), Chase (Troll Tank played by Kaliegh Averdick), Clutch (Human Transport Rigger played by Peyton Harmon), Hollywood (Human Combat Medic played by Chris Harmon), Octane (Elf Razor played by Casey Scruggs), and Thay (Elf Street Shaman played by Taylor Averdick). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The group gathered on the roof of the Space Needle with their Ares-provided nightwings and launched toward Brackhaven Investments.  They had been told a protest riot had broken out around the building, and they hoped that might provide some cover for their activities.  As they swooped in, Clutch put his nightwing on autopilot and jacked into the Matrix.  Ahead, he saw the fortress representing Brackhaven Investments and its patrol IC marching around.  He hacked on the fly and got a mark!  He was able to issue some commands to the anti-aircraft turret and get the team past it before jacking out of the Matrix.  On the roof the team found several infrared trip lines and some cameras.  Clutch jumped to the BI grid and marked the camera.  He was able to turn it off while Chase stepped over the trip line to swipe a maglock passkey.  She dropped it!  As she bent to pick it up, she tripped the alarm!

The group swiped the card again and got access.  They charged down the stairs trying to get in before security could properly respond.  At the elevator, two Stoddard Security guards were surprised to see an armed party awaiting.  The team opened up with tasers and stick-n-shock rounds.  One of the guards popped off a single live round that hit Thay squarely in the chest, but it was absorbed by her armor.  The exchange of firepower only took seconds, and the guards were sprawled out unconscious.

With the alarm tripped and security engaged, the team knew there was no need for stealth!  Now, it would require speed.  They reloaded as they stepped into the elevator.

We discuss the infiltration specifics. With 40+ floors we have to descend, we anticipate encountering guards and decide to incapacitate them as we encounter them and repurpose their outfits.
Ballyhoo buffs Chase and me, making both of us faster and Chase more keen to offensive attacks.
An Ares rep tells us a protest is going on outside of Brackhaven’s building and thinks it’s a perfect night for the infiltration. We agree and make our way to the Space Needle Restaurant. We get to the roof and launch. Immediately, Clutch hops into the Matrix and begins hacking into the anti-aircraft turret.
He marks it, shuts it off, and jacks out. We soon touch down on the roof.
We notice a camera, which Clutch disables, as well as some infrared trip wires, which we can step over, thanks to our googles/glasses.
The door has a mag lock on it, which we have a pass key for. Chase goes to swipe it, but drops it, goes to pick it up, and stumbles through the trip wire. Knowing someone will be coming soon, Chase immediately swipes the key and unlocks the door.
On the inside, we see a camera with a security light flashing, indicating an alarm has gone off.
Dell has the idea to break off an antenna and lay it in front of the door, anticipating the guard will assume it tripped the wire. Clutch commands the wingsuits to go to his hideout, so the guard won’t see them.
We run past the camera, heading for the elevator, where we presume the nearest guard(s) will be. Sure enough, within a few seconds, 2 guards emerge and spot us.
I burst-fire my Crusader pistol at one of them with the stick-n-shock ammo. The first burst misses, but the second burst is clean and staggers him significantly.
Chase also fires at the same guard, but misses.
Ballyhoo casts a stunball at the other guard, hitting him hard.
Thay casts a manabolt at the guard Chase and I had targeted, and knocked him unconscious.
The remaining guard draws his gun and tries to hit Thay. It’s a solid hit, but Thay’s armor absorbs all of it.
Clutch commands his drone to stun the standing guard, which it does and knocks him out.
Knowing that time is of the essence, we quickly search them, taking their commlinks and weapons and ammo.
