Session included: Boran Gibbs (Human Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Kalil Bakran (Human Sorcerer played by Parker Harmon), Paddy Brandywine (Halfling Bard played by Preston Harmon), and Rumbald Shieldcracker (Dwarf Ranger played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team entered a room filled with amazingly life-like statues.  Examining them stood a robed mind flayer!  It commanded its two brutish four-armed undead skeletons to attack while it levitated into the air!  The team took several hits from the undead trying to get through the door.  Rumbald used an aberration-slaying arrow fired from his aberration-bane bow, and his favored enemy is aberrations, so he devastated the mind flayer in one hit!  A mind blast stunned Paddy, but Boran restored him with a heal.  Kalil used dimension door to get into the room and started unleashing spells like cold ice strike!  The mind flayer cast greater invisibility to try and gain advantage, but Kalil cast see invisibility and was able to help the team aim area of effect spells at the creature.  The undead were blasted by Boran’s flame strike and could not withstand much thereafter.  Finally, the team took the trio down and examined the statues.

Paddy cast break enchantment and turned one of the damaged statues to flesh.  But the man was badly injured and dead.  They realized they should have repaired the statue first!  They tried again and recovered a crimson-haired female elven ranger named Jathal.  After some confusion, she was able to determine she had been petrified for about 50 years.  From her, they learned this area was inhabited by a medusa, or at least was half-a-century ago.  They discussed some tactics and cast good hope before going into the next room while Jathal headed for the surface.

In the next room lurked the dreaded medusa and her pair of minions, blind grimlock barbarians!  The barbarians attacked viciously, with their axes cutting deep into Rumbald’s dwarven flesh.  The team tried to avert their eyes and move into the room.  They discovered the medusa was a priestess when she cast blessing of fervor on herself and allies!  Later, she harassed Kalil with a spiritual weapon.  The team began to press in and dropped one of the grimlocks.  The medusa cast flame strike, but it only harmed Boran due to Paddy’s evasion.  She then turned her dwarf-bane bow on Rumbald and dropped him unconscious and dying!  Fortunately, Boran was able to selectively channel and heal the dwarf.  Suddenly, Kalil caught the medusa’s gaze and turned to stone!  Before she could smash his statue, though, the team closed in and killed her and the remaining grimlock!  Her death was sudden and complete due to Boran’s well-timed destruction spell!

With the foes defeated, the team then heroically used their resources to bring as many of the statues as they could back to life and free the poor individuals who had fallen prey to the hideous monster.

Ruins of Undermountain — Game Session — 024

Game summary for June 15, 2019, Ruins of Undermountain campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Harm Incorporated. Session included: Boran Gibbs (Human Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Kalil Bakran (Human Sorcerer played by Parker Harmon), Paddy Brandywine (Halfling Bard played by Preston Harmon), and Rumbald Shieldcracker (Dwarf Ranger played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team entered a cavern bubbling with magma and steam occupied by a pair of fire giants and a fire priest of Surtr!  One of the giants was slain very quickly by several cold ice strike spells and lightning bolt.  The priest divided the party with a blade barrier, but they still came on.  So, the priest put up a wall of fire as well which isolated some of the team.  Boran protected everyone but Rumbald with communal protection from energy (fire).  Rumbald was engaged toe-to-toe with the other giant and ended up unconscious and dying.  The team took down the giant and staggered the priest, but Boran accidentally caught him in his channeled energy and healed him.  The group swarmed in and took him down quickly, though.

Next, they came upon a chamber in which someone had tried to summon demons and ended up being slain by them.  A hezrou and retriever remained and attacked the team.  The retriever tried to petrify several party members with no effect.  The hezrou was caught with Boran’s destruction spell and nearly slain outright.  Paddy cast greater invisibility and helped Rumbald take on the retriever while Kalil hammered the foes with arcane magic.  After vanquishing the demons, the group looted the room and moved deeper into Undermountain.

The next room was lined with pillars that did not reach to the ceiling.  At the far end was a rune-covered stone.  Atop the pillars were four cannibalistic halflings armed with bows and poisoned arrows.  They began shooting the party in hopes of getting a meal.  Kalil hit two of them with lightning arc while Boran cast righteous might and dragged one down off his pedestal.  Rumbald cast animal aspect, scaled a pillar, and began fighting a halfling.  Under the cover of invisibility, Paddy investigated the runes and triggered them.  Elemental energy washed through the entire room and granted elemental power to every creatures’ weapons, which greatly increased the damage inflicted by both sides.  The halflings made good use of deadly aim, but Boran and Paddy were able to keep a steady stream of healing magic going while Kalil unleashed a barrage of spells.  The halflings held out for a while, but they could not withstand too long.

Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team entered a room occupied by a slithering syricta.  Its spell resistance thwarted their initial assault, and it grappled Kalil and envenomed Rumbald.  It then made several snake overruns, trampling the party with its bulk.  Paddy was able to set up a resonating word in the creature, which continued to damage it.  It was then hit with a lightningball and a ki shout.  It was stunned long enough for Rumbald to severely wound it with an aberration-slaying arrow.  The group soon defeated it and found a ring of spell knowledge III shoved in a crack in the floor.  Kalil taught the ring fireball and gave it to the bard.

They investigated the double doors which triggered a summoning that brought a couple elementals!  Paddy summoned his own air elemental at the same time using a magical gem and snuffed out the fire elemental, but not before it set Kalil on fire.  His efreet heritage protected him from the damage, however.  The group traded blows with the water elemental and eventually brought it down too.

Opening the doors, they found themselves confronted with an adult blue dragon!  They cast haste and charged in.  The dragon cast mage armor and began to hover, blinding them with its cloud.  Paddy and Kalil turned invisible, which proved partially effective.  The dragon cast shield as well and recognized through the spellcraft skill with Boran warded the team with communal protection from energy.  The team threw a barrage of spells and attacks at the dragon to find them mitigated by its spell resistance or high armor class.  Boran cast righteous might, which allowed him to resist some of the dragon’s attacks.  The melee was as fierce as the team had ever seen.  Kalil continued to slip a spell or two in on the dragon as the rest of the group landed a blow here and there.  Suddenly, Kalil devastated the dragon with a disintegrate!  It was badly injured and fought with fury, slaying Rumbald!  The team managed to close in and slay it!  Boran then raised Rumbald as the team sacked up the dragon’s massive treasure hoard!

The group came across a cavern with old Duergar runes and a large stone sarcophagus flanked by large mushrooms.  Purple light flared to life in eyes that opened beneath the mushroom caps as the two mushroom golems activated!  Paddy cast haste on the party and entered the room and noticed wild magic-infused faerzress that caught his interest.  Boran and Rumbald moved in and found their slashing weapons quite effective against the golems.  Kalil cast scorching ray and discovered it was completely ineffective, so he switched to his crossbow.  Paddy activated the faerzress, and it permanently turned his skin bright blue!  He then activated another node and enlarged himself for a time.  The party defeated the golems, and Paddy activated the last node, which summoned a friendly rhino.  They used the rhino to smash open the sarcophagus after triggering a negative energy mist trap!  Inside, they found an old Duergar corpse with a great magical buckler claimed by Boran.

Suddenly, four wights and a lake aptrgangr emerged from the scum-covered water behind them!  Kalil destroyed the wights with a lightning arc instantly.  Boran ended up getting beaten horrendously by the aptrgangr and suffered eight negative levels!  A disintegrate spell finally destroyed it.  They used a wand of restoration to recover their cleric and then found a chest filled with some treasure in the water.

They proceeded through a portcullis into a room decorated with the Mulhorandi depiction of Sharess.  Green energy flared to life in wall sconces, and two cursed kings with crocodile heads appeared!  Rumbald and Kalil cowered in fear for a time while the undead attacked.  The team fought back and destroyed them fairly easily, but their bestial curses afflicted Rumbald and Paddy!  Fortunately, both Boran and Paddy had ready access to break enchantment spells and were able to remedy the situation.

The group then entered a room and were attacked by a bonethorn fungus!  The creature tore into the party with deadly strikes, but the team unleashed a barrage of magic upon it.  With such an onslaught, the creature was quickly killed.  Searching the area, they found a loose stone hiding a platinum and diamond scepter of great value!

The party came into a room to find a pair of armored sword-wielding ogres standing guard for a beholder!  The team quickly discovered their magic was totally nullified by the beholder’s anti-magic cone!  The ogres began beating violently on the team as the party spread out to try and get out of the eye cone.  This did allow the beholder to start using its eye rays on some party members.  Paddy found himself petrified and then disintegrated!  Kalil was hit by several rays but shook them off.  Rumbald charged between the ogres to the beholder at great peril to himself.  Boran took several shots and had to back off and heal himself while Kalil used dimension door to further get spread out.  A flame strike and fire snake later, and things started to turn toward the party.  Finally, the group killed the beholder and then both ogres!  Kalil then used water from a strange magical fountain mixed with Paddy’s dust to recover his body albeit still in statue form.  They then summoned the doorway to Ludovic Snerd’s merchant shop and purchased a salve that would restore the statue to flesh.

The group moved a pile of boulders and uncovered a dank chamber with pools of putrid water.  A pair of hezrou demons emerged!  The sickening smell became a problem for the team, but they tried to offset it with haste and good hope spells.  One demon grappled Rumbald and caused him to become nauseated.  Meanwhile, the other unleashed chaos hammer and blasphemy spells on the team!  Kalil struggled to consistently overcome the demons’ damage reduction.  Boran cast righteous might and used his enhanced abilities to start battling away.  It took a very long time, but the team eventually overcame both foul monsters!

The team entered a room wherein three festucossis kytons were grafting bones from slain creatures onto themselves.  The devilish outsiders hurled themselves at the party using their unnerving gazes and bonebreaker bashes.  The ground rebelled against the presence of the creatures, causing great spikes to shoot up hampering movement.  The team traded blows and suffered some hard hits, but the kytons proved no match to a barrage of lightning arc and fire snake spells coupled with a pummeling assault from the melee warriors.

The group then discovered a fiery chamber occupied by a ten-headed pyrohydra and a poisonous magma ooze.  Kalil hit the pyrohydra with a disintegrate spell, and Rumbald charged in and hit it with a vicious axe swing.  Meanwhile, the poisonous magma ooze engulfed Boran and tried to consume him.  Boran got off a spell that split the ooze in half.  The team dropped the hydra, and then the team focused on the oozes and rescuing Boran.

Next, the party traveled down a narrow cavern and came upon a pair of arguing cloud giants.  The giants immediately attacked.  Rumbald tried to charge one, but he crossed through the other’s reach, and it batted him through the air and to the ground.  The other giant bashed Paddy to a pulp.  The team unleashed lightning arc and disintegrate and a flurry of brutal strikes.  Rumbald cast barkskin and closed in with a giant.  His bane weapon and hatred for giants soon brought it down, and Boran took down the other.

In a final chamber, the group was ambushed by a roper!  Three of the team were immediately stuck with strands, but Paddy avoided.  He then cast mirror image and haste.  The roper pulled the party closer, and Boran cast righteous might.  Kalil cast his final disintegrate, and the team took the monster out.

The party entered a weird section of Undermountain wherein snow gently fell and the sound of bells rattled in the distance.  The team found two fairy-like men with red hats, and a large man in a red suit.  In the corner sat an ornate evergreen tree with wrapped packages beneath it.  The fat man turned around; it was Krampus!  The evil faerie finished swallowing some poor individual while his redcaps charged with their iron boots and massive scythes!  The fey proved difficult to harm with their damage reduction, evasion, and spell resistance.  Kalil had mixed success with lightning arc and fire snake while the rest of the team tried their hands at melee.  Eventually, even Kalil was using a melee weapon!  The fighting was prolonged and vicious, but one-by-one, the redcaps fell leaving only Krampus.  He stuffed Paddy into a bag wherein he reverted to a child!  With some quick-thinking he consumed a potion of enlarge person and countered the effect.  Krampus swallowed him anyway.  Boran also got stuffed in the bag while Paddy cut himself out of Krampus’ guts.  Eventually, the team brought down the monster, and the snow and ornate tree faded away.  They found one of the greatest gifts of all in Krampus’ bag, gold.

Next the group came upon a faltering portal to the Nine Hells.  Intense heat washed out and had melted the floor and walls to near lava.  The portal popped out of a existence, and the young infernal dragon that had stumbled through earlier attacked them in a rage!  Kalil hit it full on with a disintegrate, and Boran hit it with cold ice strike and holy smite.  Rumbald managed to cut it down with his axe.

Finally, the group came upon a bizarre yithian and gug savant negotiating over a chest.  They stopped long enough to try and crush the party!  The gug tore into the group with savage teeth and claws.  So brutal was the attack, it kept the party back on its heels for a few moments.  The yithian tried to hold Rumbald with no success.  Kalil’s lightning arc blasted both creatures, and Paddy’s tiny frosty sword dealt nasty wounds.  The gug was cut down, and then Boran accidentally healed the yithian along with his allies.  However, the group rallied and brought down the aberration and claimed the fortune in gems in the chest for themselves.

Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The party entered a smoky chamber occupied by a death ettin and a pair of ghoul stalkers.  The smoke caused the party to cough and choke a little, but it was not too dangerous.  The death ettin breathed a blast of disease across the party and infected two of them.  The ghouls rushed in and flanked some of the team.  However, one was cut down quickly.  Astoundingly, the death ettin yelled “Arise!” and raised it back to unlife!  Boran stepped up and sucked the life out of the ghouls with undeath to death.  The team then was able to unload upon the death ettin, with Rumbald finally cutting it down.  The group looted the bodies and found some scattered coins as well.

They entered a natural cavern and found glowing yellow corpses attached to the walls.  A trio of glowing starlight wasps descended from the ceiling and charged in!  Despite numerous stings, none of the party succumbed to the poison.  Kalil unleashed a volley of impressive spells like lightning arc, fireball, and scorching ray.  The team closed ranks in around him for defense and cut loose with slashing blades.  It did not take long to defeat the wasps.  The team then found a side tunnel and located a closed chest at the end.  Rumbald and Paddy immediately began picking the lock and triggered a hail of arrows that injured them terribly.  They decided it was worth the pain after finding a small fortune in gems and jewelry.

Exploring, they found a fissure in the wall that led into a corridor.  One end was blocked by a cave-in, but the other led to a door.  On the other side they found two mummy clerics and a mummified gynosphinx.  The auras of despair and fear emanating from the horrors put the team off their game.  A flame strike eliminated one of the mummy clerics, and Boran stepped up to do battle.  When the gynosphinx inscribed a symbol of stunning, most of the team fell victim.  The gynosphinx then pounced Boran and ripped into him with front and rear paws while under the effect of burst of vengeance.  The cleric was unable to withstand the onslaught and fell unconscious and dying.  Moments later, the gynosphinx performed a coup de grace, and as Boran died, his body disintegrated into dust!  Fortunately, Kalil shook off his fear and unleashed magical destruction into the room and eliminated the monsters.

Discouraged by the loss of Boran, the team summoned their merchant friend Ludovic Snerd and sent him search of magic to resurrect Boran at any cost.  Meanwhile the team went through another door.  They found a workshop of horrors where some madman had been stitching together flesh golems!  Two golems attacked the team immediately!  One was a bit more power, a fleshreaver golem!  The fighting was intense, but fortunately the team figured out fire and cold magic would slow both golems.  This bought them time while Paddy and Kalil cast numerous enhancements including haste, good hope, bear’s endurance, and enlarge person.  Rumbald stepped up and held the creatures at bay as this magical defense network was layered on.  Paddy then stepped in and began fighting the flesh golem while Rumbald stayed toe-to-toe with the fleshreaver.  Both were being pretty successful until the fleshreaver finally managed to grapple Rumbald and began replacing its injured flesh and organs with hunks ripped off the dwarf!  The team was horrified and redoubled their efforts.  Finally, the constructs were overcome!  The team found several treasures in the room.

Shortly thereafter, Snerd appeared with the magic necessary to restore Boran Gibbs to life!

The group stumbled out of Trobriand’s Graveyard but soon found themselves in some dark corner of Undermountain filled with aberrations and other horrors.  The team discovered a chamber filled with beholders as a portcullis slammed down behind them!  With few choices the team engaged and found the beholders exploded when hit!  These were gas spores!  Moments later they learned it was a mix of gas spores and zombie beholders.  The floating orbs moved in as the team unleashed blasts of area of effect spells.  The ceiling was layered with loose bricks, though, so each explosion caused rubble to fall upon the party and their enemies, causing gas spores to explode, causing more bricks to fall, and so on.  In the end, the team took more damage from the bricks than anything else.  Searching the room, they found a real treasure, a figurine of wondrous power (glass walrus)!

The party progressed through another door and found themselves in a torture room occupied by two displacer beasts!  The six-legged felines rose up and waived their tentacles in annoyance.  The group charged in and found the displacer beasts a pain to hit!  Kalil learned the hard way that the iron maiden in the room was actually an iron maiden golem!  It tried to grapple him and gobble him up, but he used dimension door to get to safety and fire off scorching ray at the displacer beasts.  Boran was the next target of the iron maiden golem’s grappling attempts, but he cast righteous might to become too large to eat!  He began pounding the thing as his team layered buffing spells upon him once they killed the displacer beasts.  Soon, it was reduced to a battered mound of metal.

The next chamber proved to be some kind of dark shrine or chapel to cosmic horrors beyond time and space.  A number of vampiric cloakers hung on the wall trying to disguise themselves, but the team noticed them.  The creatures tried to engulf all the party, but several were able to fight them off, and the team took them down with little trouble.  They did find a rare treasure, a fully charged wand of voidmote!  This obscure cleric spell promised some interesting options in a future battle.

Finally, the team entered a room that may have once been consecrated to Bhaal, god of murder.  Two owlbears and a gorgon had been held in stasis, and they surged to life as the team entered.  The owlbears proved little challenge to the team’s deadly blades, but the gorgon petrified Paddy and Kalil!  Rumbald and Boran battered the creature viciously, but it critically gored Rumbald.  Paddy and Kalil shook off the petrification, and just in time!  The gorgon breathed on them again!  However, the team was able to land several more telling blows and slay the creature.  The group was able to recover a great treasure, a +2 sharding undead-bane bastard sword!

Ruins of Undermountain — Game Session — 016

Game summary for June 10, 2017, Ruins of Undermountain campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Harm Incorporated. Session included: Boran Gibbs (Human Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Kalil Bakran (Human Sorcerer played by Parker Harmon), Paddy Brandywine (Halfling Bard played by Preston Harmon), and Rumbald Shieldcracker (Dwarf Ranger played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team found themselves transported into Trobriand’s Graveyard within Undermountain.  They were immediately accosted by a pair of clockwork guardians.  They used large shields to viciously bash the party.  Boran took numerous hits.  Paddy cast haste to enhance his allies.  Kalil cast lightning arc to devastating effect, damaging both constructs terribly.  He followed it with a lightning bolt that proved too much for them to handle.

The group opened a door and found a pair of scaladars!  The mechanical scorpions whipped their electrified tails as they approached.  Kalil slipped in and cast fireball on both of them.  Boran wisely cast communal protection from energy (electricity) upon himself , Paddy, and Rumbald.  A scaladar charged Kalil while Boran slipped in and tried to move around.  The other scaladar blocked the door as Paddy cast good hope on everyone except Kalil whom he could not see.  Using his bastard sword, Boran destroyed one scaladar as Paddy used a bow to take down the other.  The team found a compartment in a scaladar heap containing some ancient technology.  Using Knowledge (engineering) they were able to determine the basic function of the items, four of which were explosive in nature.

Behind the next door, the group found a clockwork mage, clockwork soldier, and clockwork servant.  Eager to test their new weapons, they hurled an arc grenade through the door and slammed it shut.  The electricity damaged the creatures, and the team charged in.  The clockwork mage hurled a fireball upon the party and followed with scorching rays and magic missiles!  The clockwork servant began repairing the other clockworks.  The team surged in and began fighting the clockwork soldier.  Using its halberd, it dealt grievous injury to several of the team before being taken down along with the servant by Kalil’s lightning arc.  He tried to take down the clockwork mage with greater flaming sphere, but it proved resistant to that spell.  It could not, however, stand up to his scorching ray!

The team opened a final door and hurled all three of their arc grenades through.  They then opened the door and found three clockwork soldiers mounted on clockwork steeds, all damaged by electricity.  Kalil launched a fireball in and destroyed them all!
