Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 024

Game summary for August 29, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk), and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Heidi Loenhardt (human cleric).

The party squared off against the charge trollhounds, and Gnok discovered they were healing from their injuries quickly.  He beat them unconscious while Irnadette burned them with psionically conjured fire.  They then ignited torches and killed both beasts with a coup de grace.  They then opened the gate doors to find three goblins and two trolls trying to hold another gate closed while something pounded upon it from the other side.

The creatures spun around, and one of the trolls snatched up a goblin and hurled it at Gnok as hard as it could.  It smashed painfully into him hard enough to bruise his ribs and snap the neck of the goblin!  Another goblin charged forward and was killed by Gnok in moments.  A colossal battle ensued with psionic flames ripping through the room, tiger style kung-fu, and heavy crossbow bolts flying.  One troll and the last goblin went down as the gate burst asunder to reveal another flesh golem hound!  The troll and hound squared off, but the hound soon ripped the troll to pieces.

Irnadette slowed the hound with psionic fire and lured it out the front gate.  The team tried to slip past, and Heidi was gravely injured while dodging crossbow bolts from a troll that appeared up in a tower!  As Gnok slammed the gate closed, Heidi channeled positive energy and healed the team.  As the flesh golem hound began slamming into the gate, they could hear creatures moving around up overhead as well.

Gnok led the way up the ladder and triggered a sonic trap that stunned the party.  Meanwhile, a third snapjaw homunculus attacked.  After shaking off the disorientation, Gnok surged up the ladder and smashed the homunculus.

The team then moved down the ladder and down the hallway and discovered a hideous monstrosity, a fleshless man hurling vials of exploding fire and acid!  Another violent battle erupted, and the fleshless man was pinned into a corner.  He grievously wounded Gnok, but Heidi’s channeled energy kept him upright.  Meanwhile, Irnadette fired heavy crossbow bolts into the man’s torso.  Finally, Gnok succeeded in using his Tiger Style to rip out the man’s throat.

The team discovered a locked closest with a morbid content:  a cabinet filled with suits of flesh!  They figured out the man could wear the skins of others, including a large Shambling Man with scales, feathers, and other mismatched flesh.  They found the suit had tears in the shoulder, and the fleshless man (whom they determined was Vorkstag) had scars on his shoulder matching a blood caiman bite.

The group carried Vorkstag’s body, the flesh suits, and a bound Grine boldly through Lepidstadt to the courthouse, which caused quite a ruckus among the cityfolk.  The authorities swarmed to Vorkstag and Grine’s to secure the area and collect any additional evidence.  The party retired for the evening to prepare to defend the Beast in court.

The next day, the team took the stand and gave astounding evidence to the innocence of the Beast including the confession of Grine!  After an hour of deliberation, a verdict of not guilty was delivered on all counts!  The courthouse erupted in an uproar, but the Beast was ordered to be released under the cover of darkness in an undisclosed location.  The Beast thanked the party and called them his dearest friends.  He invited them to come visit him at the home of his “father” at Schloss Caromarc.

The party then met with Judge Daramid to collect their payment.  She encouraged them to seek the Beast at Schloss Caromarc and learn more of the Beast’s creator.  They agreed and headed north to the castle.  They arrived after a few days of travel in miserable weather.  As they approached the gatehouse, two enormous hideous hounds stood up and charged forward!

Carron Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 022

Game summary for August 8, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Amras Amandill (half-elf inquisitor), Dinendal Ironbow (elf ranger), Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk), and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Heidi Loenhardt (human cleric).

The party engaged what turned out to be three mongrelmen on the floor of the chymickal works.  Several of the party were nauseated by the fumes, but they quickly wiped out the mongrelmen and stole their gas masks.  They then scampered up the ladder to the catwalk while the flesh golem hound burst through the lower doorway.  Unable to follow up the ladder, it just snarled and barked.

The team entered a loading bay and found some alchemical items but nothing of real interest.  They then opened another door, and Amras caught a throwing axe to the chest!  Within the small room stood the red-haired Grine!  The wicked little man’s axe was smeared with poison, and Amras immediately felt weakened.

The group tried to press into the room, but the small space limited their options.  Amras fought from atop a bed while Gnok and Dinendal forced Grine to slink backward.  Having been punched and smacked in the face by Gnok, Grine sought retreat.  Grine used his poisoned handaxe to further weaken Amras before dropping a globe of magical darkness in the room while he scampered up a ladder.  Amras countered with a light orison and pursued only to take another hit from Grine’s sharp little axe!  At the top of the ladder, Amras found himself surrounded by Grine and two snapjaw homunculi!  Gnok, Dinendal, and Irnadette scampered up as well, and the seven combatants went at each other’s throats in the 15’ x 15’ room!  Both Gnok and Irnadette succumbed to sleep poison from the homunculi and Amras suffered several sneak attacks from Grine.  Just as things looked the most bleak, Dinendal knocked Grine out with a well-placed mace!  Heidi then entered the room and channeled positive energy to heal the party.  Amras cut apart one homunculus, and as Gnok came to, he destroyed the other.

The team quickly bound Grine and searched the two rooms.  They discovered a small steel box which Irnadette was able to open with her lock picks.  However, it triggered a poison gas trap, but she was able to shake off the effects.  The party debated heading back to the courthouse with Grine or staying and searching for clues.  They decided they still needed hard evidence and opted to stay.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 021

Game summary for August 1, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk) and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Heidi Loenhardt (human cleric).

The team went to the Karb Isle Sanctuary and poked around the old ruins.  They discovered a heat-warped iron strongbox and delicately forced it open with a hammer…  Inside they discovered charred papers that they could not make any sense of, so they tucked them away for later.  Gnok then noticed a dark hole leading down into what appeared to be a cellar or sublevel, partially collapsed.  It appeared to be about fifteen feet deep with several bodies within.  An iron candelabrum adorned with severed charred heads dangled from chains.

The team secured a rope and dropped into the cellar where they “bodies” rose up to attack!  As they approached, Gnok got violently sick from their stench and spewed all over the room.  Repeatedly.  Moments later, Irnadette did the same.  A brutal fight ensued, but Irnadette’s fiery and electrical psionics proved too much for the four ghasts.  Having defeated the undead, the team searched the room and discovered a glass container labeled “Vorkstag and Grine Chymickal Bleach.”  They then examined the severed heads and found one resembled the missing and presumed late Dr. Brada.  Their new companion, Heidi, happens to be a trained medium, and she agreed to cast speak with dead.

From the whispering head (it has no lungs), they discovered it was indeed Dr. Brada, and he had been betrayed by Vorkstag and Grine over a business deal gone south.  He had demanded more money for the prisoners he had been selling the merchants, and Grine brought his “monster” to kill Brada, which is what resulted in the Karb Isle fire.  Dr. Brada described the beast as seven feet tall with a scarred shoulder and chest and patchwork flesh.

The team returned to Lepidstadt to speak with the Barrister.  He was intrigued by their findings and was able to make out the words Vorkstag and Grine in the charred ledger they had discovered.  The group went to talk with the Beast who denied ever being at Karb Isle and seemed to know nothing of Vorkstag or Grine.  The Beast did not react to seeing Dr. Brada’s head other than to remark he was ugly.

The group then went over to the Vorkstag and Grine Chymic Works, a small brick factory with a massive chimney dumping pollutants into the air.  As they got close, Gnok (a trained alchemist) recognized the smells of bleach and acid.  They rang the bell at the gate and were greeted by a gnome with orange hair and horrible scars on his face.  The little man was not friendly.  Gnok tried to intimidate him, but he called a flesh golem hound to his side!  He then slammed the door in the parties’ faces.  They rang the bell again, and he yelled at them.

Gnok did not feel good about the idea of breaking and entering, so they used the law to their advantage.  As officers of the court, the spoke with a judge and made an argument based on their evidence that they should have a warrant to search the factory.  The judge grudgingly agreed but would not commit any guardsmen to enforcing it.  He simply stated as officers of the court, they could serve the warrant themselves which suited the team just fine.

The group returned to the chymic works and were denied entry by the gnome, so Gnok smashed the gate open and was promptly savaged by the terribly dangerous flesh golem!  Fortunately, Heidi was able to cure his wounds as quickly as the hound mauled him.  Irnadette discovered she could slow the golem with fire magic, and the girls slipped around to a door and picked the lock under the cover of a silence spell while Gnok kept the hound busy.  They went in to a large room filled with choking, nauseating chemical vats, and Gnok came running in behind and slammed the door.  As the flesh golem hound clawed at the door, the party looked around and saw eight horribly scarred humanoids wearing gas masks standing in shock around the room.  A trio began advancing on the team!

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 020

Game summary for July 27, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Amras Amandill (half-elf inquisitor), Dinendal Ironbow (elf ranger), Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk), Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), and Stoella Carter (human evoker), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

The team stepped into the night and continued exploring the village seeking more of the wraith spawn.  They didn’t take long in discovering one in another home.  A vicious fight ensued with the wraith being vanquished.  The team then spotted another down a side path and pursued only to discover it was leading them into unsprung bear traps!  Proceeding more cautiously, they continued on and tracked down several more unquiet spirits.

With four wraith spawn slain, the group spotted a pair darting up a hill outside the village heading toward a tall solitary figure in the distance.  They raced after in pursuit, and Gnok stepped into another bear trap!  He soon escaped, and Amras healed him with magic.  They then continued more carefully up the hill.  Stoella used flaming sphere to attack one of the wraith spawn but couldn’t seem to harm it.  Dinendal ran ahead and noticed the solitary figure was a mere scarecrow!  The wraiths surged forward and a tough battle followed.  The party suffered at the hands of the wraiths but eventually prevailed.  As the second fell, a loud droning buzzing filled the air as Brother Swarm emerged from beneath the hill.  The fearsome master wraith tore into the party with a ravenous hunger and undying hatred.  It stole life from several as it touched them, but Thorkatla proved too weak and died at the hands of the creature moments before the party ended its unlife.

The party discovered the bodies of the missing children beneath the hill and put them with Thorkatla before investigating the rest of the town.  As they returned to the corpses, they caught a glimpse of another wraith, Thorkatla, fleeing into the night!  Unable to catch her, the party returned to town with the evidence they gathered.  They met with the Barrister and made a plan for the following day.

The team rested and recovered spells and then went to the courthouse to present new evidence.  They presented several very good arguments, and many in the ground seemed agitated by the proof.  On the streets, murmurs were around of people angry that the Beast might actually go free.  The Barrister asked the party to come back early that evening in case some upstarts made an attempt on the Beast’s life.  In the meantime, they found a man named Karl, the sole survivor of the Karb Isle Sanctuary fire and interviewed him.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 019

Game summary for July 25, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Amras Amandill (half-elf inquisitor), Dinendal Ironbow (elf ranger), Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk) and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

The party awoke from their slumbers, studied spells, and made their way to the Lepidstadt courthouse.  At the proper time, they each came forward as witnesses and testified on behalf of the Beast, presenting evidence from the village of Morast to cast doubt upon the Beast’s guilt.  Some of their arguments were very compelling, others less so; however, they had a fair good showing for their first day.

After the trial, they visited three sisters who had witnessed the Beast in the town of Hergstag during the killing spree.  They claimed to have seen the Beast laughing while carrying the body of Ellsa.  The townsfolk drove him into the swamp, and he disappeared.  Over the course of several evenings, many children went missing, and their ghosts rose up and haunted the town.  After a total of six dead children, the townsfolk fled.  During their interview, the party discovered the last child, Karin, died two days after the Beast was driven off.

The team mounted up and rode their steeds the 10 miles to Hergstag, arriving right at dusk.  They entered the chapel of Desna and encountered the wicked smiling spirit of a young girl.  The shadowy figured taunted them and said “He’s coming” before faded into the darkness.  Amras cast light on his blade and strode boldly into the room and recognized the creature as a wraith spawn.  The party followed and engaged in a vicious battle with the malicious spirit.  As Amras cut down the undead monster, it uttered the word “swarm” as it dissipated.  The party turned in time to see the last sliver of the sun dip down behind the mountains and darkness fall over the village.  Night.  The time of wraiths.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 018

Game summary for July 2, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk) and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

The team investigated the Antiquities Department of Lepidstadt University looking for clues.  They found the door had been smashed, which triggered an alarm spell.  Booted footprints led to a rail where something, assumedly the Beast, had climbed over.  The room was smashed, except for the area where the Seasage Effigy had been.  They discovered the central window had recently been opened, but there were no tracks outside the window.

The group then traveled to the hamlet of Morast to investigate the 10 murders.  They met with the village elder, Lazne.  After some preliminary conversation, and Gnok vomiting after trying his horrendous dip, Lazne agreed to recount his tale of the Beast.  He told how they ambushed the Beast and chased it into the swamp near their old boneyard.  Just offshore, a blood caiman bit into the shoulder of the 7-foot monster and dragged it beneath the river never to surface.

The team talked him into taking them out to the boneyard island.  They discovered an old campsite and the remnants of a darkvision extract.  They, the found several of the graves had sunken in and were permitted by Lazne to dig one up to investigate.  While digging, a manticore swooped out of the sky and launched a volley of spikes!  Irnadette manifested energy missile repeatedly while Gnok climbed a tall tree in hopes of leaping on top of the manticore and Thorkatla swapped to a light crossbow.  The manticore swung out in a wide arc over the river while Irnadette continued to blast it with augmented psionic power.  Before it could fully come around again, she blasted it out of the sky!  It died crashing into the swampy river!

The group continued investigating and found the remains of a dwarf in the manticore’s nest.  They also found an old boat with dried blood in the bottom along with a moldy satchel.  There was also a rope leading off into the water that was attached to a man-sized bloody sack.  Within the satchel, the group found some old clothes and the detached face of a human being!  After talking themselves into it, the team looked in the sack as well.  It contained coils of rope, a rusty shovel, a rusted lantern, a trio of heavy knives, and a gag.

Finally, as the team was about to leave, they took one last look around, and Irnadette discovered a fine leather case filled with silver surgical tools!  Perplexed, the team returned to Lepidstadt to report their findings to Barrister Kaple.  He told them to go get sleep and be prepared to take the stand and present their findings by 12:30 the next day.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 017

Game summary for June 22, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk) and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

The party agreed to travel the rest of the way to Lepidstadt with the Crooked Kin following a quiet funeral for Aleece.  The team set out and traveled toward the city.  While guarding camp one evening, Irnadette heard something large sniffing around the wagons and sounded the alert.  A massive troll lumbered forth and attacked the party!  A brutal fight ensued and the team figured out fire was a necessary weapon against the regenerating giant.  Fortunately, Irnadette’s psionics allowed her to summon elemental flame to damage the troll.  The party was able to beat it to the ground and pour lantern oil over the body to consume it.

The following day the team arrived in Lepidstadt in the late afternoon and learned more of the trial of the Beast and the massive Punishing Man intended to burn him in a few days’ time.  The group visited the home of Judge Embreth Daramid to deliver one of the books from Professor Lorrimor.  She was saddened to learn of his death but appreciated the party bringing the book to her.  She then asked the party to sign on with Barrister Gustav Kaple as volunteer defenders of the Beast and investigate the crimes for which he was arrested.  She indicated she could not be party to their investigations being a judge on the case, but she wanted to make sure the Beast got a fair trial, which no one in Lepidstadt seemed interested in delivering.  The team agreed and went to the courthouse to meet the barrister.

The group signed on as defenders and went to meet the Beast of Lepidstadt who was locked in the cellar.  The massive patchwork man was chained with half a dozen sets of manacles to an iron chair.  The party spoke with him briefly, and he repeatedly stated “I didn’t do it.”  The group learned the Beast is on trial for allegedly murdering 10 villagers in Morast a year ago, slaying six children in Hergstag 7 months ago, and starting a fire in the Sanctuary at Karb Isle which killed many and blinded another man.  They also learned he was arrested in Lepidstadt University while smashing the antiquities department and is accused of having stolen the Seasage Effigy.  With the trial’s opening day completed, the team has only three days to investigate and bring evidence of the Beast’s guilt or innocence to court!

The group went to the University to investigate the site of the arrest.  They found workers trying to clean up from the Beast’s destructive rampage.  There they met Dr. Montagnie Crowl.  They had been tasked with delivering occult tomes to the doctor in Dr. Lorrimor’s will, so they were able to deliver them and talk about the break in and theft.  Dr. Crowl drew them a picture of the Seasage Effigy, calling it a curious but mostly valueless piece.  He speculated it may be some kind of idol or demon or something.

The team then asked to look around the crime scene, which Dr. Crowl was happy to lead them to.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 016

Game summary for June 22, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, The Haunting of Harrowstone adventure conclusion and beginning of Trial of the Beast adventure; PCs included Amras Amandill (half-elf inquisitor), Dinendal Ironbow (elf ranger), Malthus Brightray (half-elf cleric), and Stoella Carter (human evoker), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

After resting and preparing, the team returned to the depths of Harrowstone Prison to see if Stoella’s magic could repair the portcullis mechanism.  While there, they encountered Gibs Hephanus, possessed by Father Charlatan.  He slashed with his war razor and opened Stoella up.  She and Malthus retaliated with burning hands while Dinendal fired arrows.  He collapsed unconscious, and Father Charlatan possessed Stoella.  As she struggled unconscious, the party pumped positive energy and spells of protection onto her to drive out the spirit.  Eventually, they disrupted the vengeful haunt.  Stoella then used mending to repair the lever and get into The Nevermore cell block.

The final cell block was partially flooded and a bit unstable.  The team moved in and bloody letters began appearing on the walls spelling out the characters’ names!  They quickly began smashing the letters and soon brought the roof down on themselves.  As the rubble settled, the ghostly form of the Splatter Man rose up out of the flooded oubliette in the center of the block!  Stoella launched a flaming sphere at the ghost, but it passed through harmlessly.  The Splatter Man then cast maximized magic missile and hit every party member!  He then began moving through the cell walls forcing the party to scramble to keep up.  Fortunately, Stoella had force missile and was able to blast away at the spirit.  Dinendal used enchanted arrows to whittle away and Malthus and Thorkatla channeled positive energy to harm the spirit or heal injuries.  For his part, the Splatter Man conjured fiendish dire rats to further keep the party off balance and released a barrage of magic missiles.  The fighting was truly intense with the heroes nearly dying; however, at the last moment, they vanquished the Splatter Man!

With the ghost defeated, the party used detect magic and found a number of powerful magic items at the bottom of the oubliette.  They used a rope and Dinendal’s diving skills to retrieve them all.  They then went to the first floor and met with Vesorianna Hawkran.  She was ecstatic with the party’s achievements and was able to use the power of the warden’s badge to completely eradicate the spirits of Harrowstone.  She gifted the party with the badge and crossed over into the afterlife.

The group returned to Ravengro as heroes and were treated to the cheers of the crowd.  The council delivered the promised gold, and the team settled in to pass the next 25 days guarding Kendra as requested in the Professor’s will.  They passed the time brewing potions, scribing scrolls, and crafting items.  Amras courted inn owner Sarianna Vai and got engaged!  The team spent time and money purchasing horses and gear for their upcoming travel to Lepidstadt.  Once the month was up the team set out on the Old Mountain Road toward the city.

Along the road, they met some travelers and learned there is much uproar in the city ahead.  The Beast of Lepidstadt (thought by many to be just a bogeyman) has been captured and is soon to be on trial!  People are coming from far and wide to see this supposed murderer and monster tried and burned!

The party continued on the road and after two days of travel came upon a circle of garish Varisian wagons surrounded by a number of bizarre individuals.  Across the side of the wagons was painted “The Crooked Kin—Ustalav’s Greatest Traveling Cabinet of Curiosities!”  The party approached and was greeted by an albino man in a red top hat introducing himself as Kaleb.  They also met a 7-foot-tall bearded woman named Lidia and a crying hairy boy called the Wolf Child.  The entire group was upset because one of their number, Aleece had disappeared into the marsh.  They found her tracks but were too afraid to go in after her.

Dinendal and Amras had no trouble tracking the woman’s progress about a half mile off the road to a clearing.  They discovered where the tracks ended and it appeared something had been dragged into the bushes.  The team heard a bizarre screaming that sounded much like a human woman, but something was a bit off.  The screaming continued as they stumbled upon the desiccated corpse of Aleece.  Looking at the tracks on the ground, the fact that the screams seemed to come from different copses of vegetation, and the vocalization was a bit off, Amras figured out he had heard of creatures that could cause all three—phase spiders.  The team started to spread out when a phase spider erupted from the ethereal plane and bit Stoella!  Deadly toxin flowed from its fangs into her petite form.  The team scrambled to fight the spider, but it kept shifting into the ethereal plane and moving across the battlefield to ambush again and again.  Malthus and Amras found this particularly vexing with their slower armored movement.

Arrows hissed from Dinendal’s bow while Stoella hurled spells.  Malthus channeled energy to heal his allies while Amras used true strike to setup some deadly attacks.  Thorkatla used the Lopper’s handaxe to attack the spider as well.  Although the fighting was intense, the spider stood no chance against the party.  After a frustrating battle, Amras spun about and decapitated the spider with Warden Hawkran’s enchanted keen blade!  The team gathered the body of Aleece and the head of the spider and returned to the Crooked Kin.  The group was devastated but thankful for the party’s assistance.  In gratitude, Kaleb gifted the party with an enchanted dagger.

Carrion Crown Adventure Path – Game Session – 015

Game summary for June 20, 2013, Carrion Crown Adventure Path campaign, The Haunting of Harrowstone adventure; PCs included Amras Amandill (half-elf inquisitor), Dinendal Ironbow (elf ranger), Gnok Thatek (dwarf monk), and Irnadette Steelsoul (elan psion), accompanied by NPC companion Thorkatla Foamflagon (dwarf cleric).

The team decided to hunt down Mel the Minstrel to see if he had discovered any information for them from the church of Pharasma.  Turns out, he had!  He was able to give the group the final bits of information on the Piper of Illmarsh.  The group thanked him and paid for his information.  They then returned to Kendra’s and did some additional research on the Whispering Way and discovered quite a bit more about them.

With night falling, the group went back to the Laughing Demon tavern for a meal and to see if anyone was going to the town meeting.  Seemed everyone but the party was going.  They watched as everyone gathered in the town hall.  Worried something may happen to the townsfolk, the party stayed outside.  After a while, the doors suddenly slammed shut and screaming began!  The team rushed forward and ripped the doors open just as the lanterns inside exploded in flames and powerful force knocked everyone to the ground.  Crackling flames raced across the floor and up the walls billowing thick black smoke.

The party rushed inside and began carrying the townspeople who were knocked out toward the doors.  They pulled Kendra to safety and rushed about saving others.  One man was lying near the flames and was ignited—Dinendal carried him outside where he and Thorkatla attempted to put out the flames but were unsuccessful.  The man died from the burning fires.  Irnadette, Gnok, and Amras cut things very close trying to rescue all the others.  The heat and choking flames caused Irnadette and Amras to collapse unconscious.  Thorkatla’s animate rope spell helped Dinendal and Gnok drag everyone out of the fire and to safety.

As the town hall burned, the party convinced the townsfolk that the spirits they briefly beheld were evil ghosts from the prison.  The townsfolk finally believed, after their heroic deeds, that the group was trustworthy.  The council offered to pay 500 gp each to clear the prison of the dangerous spirits.  The party agreed and went to Kendra’s to nurse their wounds and rest for the night.
