Chronoshift: Spelljammer — Game Session — 062

Game summary for November 14, 2023, Chronoshift: Spelljammer campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Claude Dill Budshire (Sokari Sorcerer played by Peyton Harmon), Edonna Match Wushu Lu Klighke (Dragonborn Oracle played by Casey Scruggs), Hekera Nephera Mawhesk Vyk’sebekenka (Sebek-ka Fighter played by Preston Harmon), Helg Ingvar (Aasimar Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Khesen Pavel (Human Brawler played by Parker Harmon), and Notch Bowman (Human Fighter played by Andrew Renfrow). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The group met a few new adventurers and brought them into the fold.  They welcomed Claude Dill Budshire, a sokari sorcerer who specializes in evocation.  Likewise, they welcomed Notch Bowman, a talented human archer.

They then went to the Laughing Beholder to get the latest gossip and information.  After they talked to people for a while, Councilman Ozamata’s representative, yakuza Yuan Zhang, entered and approached.  He presented them with a missive sealed with Ozamata’s crane symbol.  He informed them the Councilman had found them work, as requested.  He wanted them to enter the Bral Underdark in pursuit of the Pink Lady, a fairly new arrival on Bral with connections to the construction guilds.  Her husband had been kidnapped and taken into the Underdark.  She had gone ahead with some of her toadies and wanted some serious muscle to follow her down and help rescue him.  In exchange for their services, Ozamata offered to double their investment in his businesses as well as deeding them his latest purchase, Torvey’s Tent Pegs!  Formerly owned by Boris the Butcher, this would certainly be quite the insult to their enemy.  The team instantly agreed, took the provided map to the rendezvous point, and headed to a known Underdark entrance beneath Gamalon’s curio shop.  They spoke with him about Bral Underdark denizens and learned there are rumors of an illithid mastermind in the depths, activities of the Chainmen slavers, orcs and kobolds, and of course the usual Underdark vermin and slimes.

The team found a room where a battle recently raged.  Numerous poorly equipped orcs and kobolds lay dead.  Helg discovered footprints appearing to belong to female human and maybe four gnomes exiting the area.  They also found some pools of a strange brown liquid.

They moved down the hallway and found a triggered fire trap, its pressure plate now apparent.  The walls were scorched, and there was quite a bit of that brown liquid sprayed all over.  Helg cast communal protection from energy to ward the entire group against fire.  Carefully, they moved on down the hall and through secret doors marked on the map.

They came to a door and opened it to reveal another slaughter.  The rotting bodies appeared to maybe have once been zombies.  From the carnage arose lots of other undead!  Two skeletal creatures rose up, their distended purplish entrails writhed from their mouths like slimy spiked tongues.  A pair of man-sized doglike creatures rose up as well.  They were apparently feasting on the slain corpses.  The team paused a moment, shocked by the scene!

Chronoshift: Spelljammer — Game Session — 061

Game summary for November 7, 2023, Chronoshift: Spelljammer campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Edonna Match Wushu Lu Klighke (Dragonborn Oracle played by Casey Scruggs), Hekera Nephera Mawhesk Vyk’sebekenka (Sebek-ka Fighter played by Preston Harmon), Helg Ingvar (Aasimar Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Jiraiya (Hurwaeti Freebooter played by Andrew Renfrow), Khesen Pavel (Human Brawler played by Parker Harmon), and Neko (Half-Orc Magus played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The party ventured deeper into the dragon’s lair, a cavern where danger dripped from every shadowed crevice. High above, the dragon perched imperiously alongside its formidable allies: a draco-wyvern, a pale chimericore, and a fiery red dungeonbred chimera. The dragon conjured a thick blanket of haunting mists, its magic doing little but veiling the treacherous icy floor below, which tested the party’s footing. Undeterred, the adventurers resourcefully brandished potions of flight and whisk away admixtures, defying the slippery ground as they ascended into the air.

Invisibility cloaked Khesen, but the dragon, keen to his scent, unleashed a chilling breath of shocking cold. Miraculously, his magical defenses held firm against the icy onslaught. Below, the chimericore’s spikes crackled with electrical fury, thwarted only by the team’s resilient wardings. The dragon, persistent in its sorcery, cast a choking stinking cloud that further shrouded the battleground, though it did little more than blur vision.

Above the miasma, Neko soared, only to be met by the searing breath of the dungeonbred chimera. A swift and deadly flyby from the dragon snatched him from his aerial refuge, its maw delivering a lethal strike before discarding him lifelessly upon a craggy outcrop.

As the team strategically dismantled the dragon’s minions, Hekera, emboldened by an enlarge person spell, stormed across the cavern with the fury of a tempest, landing a devastating blow that left the dragon reeling from the unexpected ferocity. Despite another fearsome wave of its shocking breath, the party stood unscathed, their protective magics unwavering.

The battle’s tide turned as the dragon retreated to a lofty perch, cornered with nowhere left to soar. Jiraiya, armed with his flayer flail dripping with toxin, aimed to incapacitate the beast, only to be met with a vicious counterstrike that ended his valiant charge.

Below, Edonna and Helg feverishly wove spells to bolster their companions and mend their wounds. Hekera, relentless, pressed on with Khesen at his side. They harried the dragon with a relentless assault until, in a whirl of scales and fury, the dragon retaliated, cutting down Khesen in a brutal display of its raw power. Hekera, though grievously wounded, remained unyielding. Rallying with healing magic from his comrades, he lunged once more into battle, and with a thunderous strike, pierced the dragon’s heart, silencing the tyrant of the skies.

With haste, the survivors collected their fallen and the dragon’s treasure trove, securing the beast’s carcass within their cage. They returned to Bral, hearts heavy with loss, to claim their bittersweet reward. Though the bounty was modest, for the dragon had fallen by their hands rather than succumbing to capture; however, the threat was vanquished. Mournful yet resolute, they honored their departed, resurrecting some while others found peace in eternal slumber. Licking their wounds, the adventurers counted their remaining gold and looked to the horizon for fresh allies. With their resolve steeled, they readied themselves for whatever fate would cast upon their path next.

Halloween Hootenanny XVI – Dread Roleplaying Game – Return to the Cabin in the Woods

Game summary for October 28, 2023, Return to the Cabin in the Woods campaign, Dread Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Angelino Gambino (Human played by Peyton Harmon), Cory Bennington (Human played by Preston Harmon), Elijah Sutton (Human played by Parker Harmon), Jack Williams (Human played by Josh Jenkins as secondary), James Robertson (Human played by Peyton Harmon as secondary), John Nelson (Human played by Casey Scruggs), Loretta “Fancy” Walker (Human played by Katy Jenkins), Paulie DiMarco (Human played by Andrew Renfrow), Thomas Jensen (Human played by Shane Bradley), and Victor Wolfe (Human played by Josh Jenkins). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The group arrived at Myers & Krueger Cabin Retreat in upstate Vermont during early October.  The retreat, nestled in the remote woodlands, had been converted into an off-the-grid rehab retreat for online addictions.  For this particular group, online gambling.  They were impressed by the expensive cabin with its large logs, massive windows, enormous heated pool.  A nearby boathouse sat on edge of Crystal Lake, a stable and maintenance shed lay behind the main structure.

Their van driver, Clive, dropped them at the entrance, and a bubbly, attractive, middle-aged Asian woman named Alma Katsu came down to meet them.  She was so excited to welcome them.  So excited!  Meanwhile, Clive drove off to get another group from nearby Eden, Vermont.

The guests began getting to know one another, picking bunkmates, and exploring a bit.  Fancy went to the stables and fed one of the horses, which got her yelled at by the maintenance man, Abraham Stoker.  Paulie and Cory decided they would bunk together.  The group looked around a bit and met Mary Shelley, the culinary expert.  She was cooking some kind of stew with the secret ingredient, no meat!  Several of the group went on a short hike in the woods.  Thomas found himself a large staff, and Angelino found himself a smaller stick which he used a rock to shape into a stake-like object.  While in the woods, they saw several deer and a rabbit.  Meanwhile, Fancy went to soak her toes in the pool, and several others at on the porch and relaxed.  Some of the group roamed around and seemed to collect some apparently odd things.

They regrouped in the main hall as storm clouds came rolling in and rain began pattering down.  Alma found a weird rubber hamburger on the table, which perplexed her.  They had dinner, talked, and the power went out.  The storm raged, and the power went out.  Alma said it was strange because most of the power lines are underground here but there is a generator in the shed.  They thought perhaps Abraham would fire it up soon.  They searched around and found a candle inside.  In a while there was a horrendous volume of cries from the stable, perhaps from the horses?  They sent Alma to investigate.  A few minutes later she returned drenched in blood.  She collapsed on the floor, and they looked her over.  To their shock she was bleeding from what appeared to be a shark bite?

They found some first aid materials and tried to patch her up and found a way to light the gas logs to keep her warm.  Looking around they found two other awkward items in the room they swore were not there before.  One was a plastic pumpkin, and the other was a Native American headdress.  Some of the group went to shed to try and get the generator running and look for some means of communication.  Inside, they found Abraham, dead.  He had been scalped and throat slit.  They fired up the generator, turned on the radio, and tried to call for help.  They collected several tools and returned to the group.

The group began seeing and being chased by weird monstrosities.  One was a large black bull with glowing red eyes.  When it opened its impossibly wide maw, it revealed row upon row of shark teeth.  Another was a ghostly Native American woman who wore a headdress over her scalped skull and carried a wicked knife.  Finally, there was a scarecrow-like figure with a jack-o-lantern head.

Several of the group began revealing they knew about the supernatural forces at work here and needed to enact some kinds of rituals to banish these entities.  They revealed they needed to collect several different items, some of which they already found, and needed willing assistants to complete them.

Victor, Angelino, and Paulie, fled to the boathouse and started to enact Angelino’s ritual, which required the final ingredient of mammal excrement.  Angelino popped a squat to get that last ingredient as the shark-bull crashed through the wall and bit him in half!  It ran off with half his corpse.  The other two rushed to try and finish the ritual, which in part required crushing salt and glass together and snorting it.  Victor completed the ritual and gained some sort of horrid connection with the bull!

Meanwhile, the group sought to gather the materials for John and Fancy’s rituals.  They completed John’s, which seemed to weaken the power of the spirits.  Emboldened, they completed Fancy’s ritual as well, which seemed the wrong thing to do.  The scalp taker appeared, merged with Fancy for a moment, grabbed John and ripped into him.  She scalped him and stabbed him repeatedly before hurling him through one of the windows!  The spirit then left Fancy who seemed to not know what happened.

Dr. James Robertson, a survivor of the apparent crashed van of other guests, stumbled up to the door.  He seemed to be aware of Angelino’s ritual but claimed it didn’t work right because the wrong person completed it.  He said they needed to do it again, but it must be him.  They dodged the angry spirits, and Victor, Paulie, and James ended up back in the boathouse.  Victor was able to somewhat control the shark-bull and keep it at bay, but they were still under assault from the scalp taker and pumpkin carver.  They started working on the ritual and were viciously attacked by the scalp taker.  Victor drowned himself in an effort to break the link to the shark-bull and hopefully send it back to hell.  It didn’t work.  The other two were able to dodge the scalp taker long enough to enact the ritual again, linking James to the shark-bull.

Meanwhile, the pumpkin carver was wreaking havoc at the cabin, hurling spiked pumpkins and covering the cabin in vines.  Thomas had had enough, and he set his staff on fire and smashed it through the face of the pumpkin carver, dismissing it back to the netherworld!

They then tried to enact Fancy’s ritual again, which seemed to summon another monster!  A wicked blue-haired clown appeared and transformed into a giant mosquito!  It buzzed around and eventually crashed through a door and used its proboscis to impale and drain Elijah’s bodily fluids until he died!  Several of the group fled down the road and ran into another crash survivor, Jack Williams.  They all turned and fled to the van where they found all the passengers and Clive dead.  The van had been rammed by the shark-bull.  The scalp taker appear in the mirror and slaughtered Cory while the others fled!  The rest of the group left the cabin and were chased by the clown mosquito.  It buzzed down out of the sky, and they beat it with oars, wooden spoons, and their bare hands until it was ripped to pieces!

The groups were able to meet up back at the van, and Fancy was able to summon the scalp taker with her apparent link to it.  It would not attack her, but it also refused to let the others go.  It wounded several but the group discovered that although their attacks went through her body, when struck on the head, her skull shattered and banished the demon!

As the sun began to rise, the group realized those left standing had survived the night and fled down the road!

Chronoshift: Spelljammer — Game Session — 060

Game summary for October 17, 2023, Chronoshift: Spelljammer campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Edonna Match Wushu Lu Klighke (Dragonborn Oracle played by Casey Scruggs), Hekera Nephera Mawhesk Vyk’sebekenka (Sebek-ka Fighter played by Preston Harmon), Helg Ingvar (Aasimar Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Jiraiya (Hurwaeti Freebooter played by Andrew Renfrow), Khesen Pavel (Human Brawler played by Parker Harmon), and Neko (Half-Orc Magus played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

Departing the ethereal wooden island, where they had valiantly confronted the colossal chimera, the intrepid team sailed deeper into the boundless expanse of Coliar, the enigmatic air planet. Their destination: an icy island rumored to be the abode of a formidable dragon. After a day of tireless searching, their keen eyes glimpsed a potential candidate. They anchored their vessel a prudent distance away, opting for stealth as they disembarked near a cavern entrance.

Preparing for the challenges that lay ahead, Helg invoked two communal protection from energy spells, warding against the frigid embrace of cold and the searing fury of electricity. Edonna, ever the beacon of divine favor, cast bless and divine protection spells upon the entire group, bolstering their resolve. Neko, a master of arcane arts, ensconced himself behind a shimmering shield, ready to fend off magical assaults.

As the party approached the cavern’s frozen maw, a chilling tableau unveiled itself. A half-dragon aarakocra sorceress, her scales and feathers a mesmerizing sky blue, took a commanding stance. Flanking her were two winged gorillas, their powerful frames wielding falchions with formidable expertise, and two menacing flame drakes.

The battle ignited with a fiery burst, as one of the flame drakes, breaking formation, unleashed a searing fireball over the tightly clustered adventurers. Fortune favored Jiraiya, who agilely rolled free of the fiery inferno. Yet, the party remained scattered, struggling to close in on their monstrous adversaries. In the midst of the chaos, Helg, imbued with divine might, invoked the righteous wrath of the faithful.

The aarakocra sorceress, in a calculated maneuver, conjured an obscuring mist that shrouded the battlefield in a veil of secrecy. The other flame drake followed suit with its own fiery breath, compounding the challenges faced by the party. Meanwhile, a winged gorilla, a fearsome derhii, hurled a javelin, but it missed its intended mark.

In a spectacular display of speed and skill, Jiraiya, his flail crackling with magic, streaked through the air, colliding with a flying derhii and activating his flail’s confusion-inducing power, throwing the bewildered foe into a state of disarray.

Edonna, assailed by fire and magic, was forced to retreat into the enigmatic mists, where she mended her wounds with potent healing spells. Hekera, the fearless warrior, advanced on one of the drakes, and with a mighty swing of his blade, brought the creature low. Switching to his bow, he began peppering his adversaries with arrows from a distance.

Helg, undeterred by the chaos, charged headlong into the fray, engaging the drake with fervor and landing several telling blows. Jiraiya, still grappling with the derhii, found himself often in single combat due to the creature’s confusion. Khesen joined forces with Helg, confronting the remaining drake while Neko, repositioning for optimal spellcasting, prepared to contribute his arcane might.

With a triumphant blow from Jiraiya’s flail, one derhii met its demise. Neko, now in a strategic position, conjured scorching rays, searing the derhii but finding the flame drake immune to his arcane assault.

Jiraiya, drawing upon his heritage and unparalleled leaping ability, engaged the aarakocra in mid-flight, grappling her with unmatched audacity. The aarakocra, taken aback by the sudden altercation in the air, tumbled to the ground as the two clashed. Neko, seizing the opportunity, invoked a forbid action spell, silencing her spellcasting. Hekera’s arrows found their mark as the tussle continued.

Jiraiya wrested a magical wand from the aarakocra’s grasp, prompting her to unleash her electrically charged cold dragon breath upon the party, unaware of their enchantment against such effects. Neko manifested a magical warhammer and delivered a crushing blow, felling the sorceress and bringing an end to the battle.

With the sorceress vanquished, the group swiftly looted her belongings, their magical wards still holding strong, and readied themselves to venture into the cave, prepared for the challenges that awaited within.

Chronoshift: Spelljammer — Game Session — 059

Game summary for October 10, 2023, Chronoshift: Spelljammer campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Edonna Match Wushu Lu Klighke (Dragonborn Oracle played by Casey Scruggs), Hekera Nephera Mawhesk Vyk’sebekenka (Sebek-ka Fighter played by Preston Harmon), Helg Ingvar (Aasimar Cleric played by Chris Harmon), Jiraiya (Hurwaeti Freebooter played by Andrew Renfrow), Khesen Pavel (Human Brawler played by Parker Harmon), Komorebi (Kitsune Bard played by Josh Jenkins), and Neko (Half-Orc Magus played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team diligently followed the trail through the woods, tracing the path left by the dragged corpse. Evidently, the tracks hinted at the presence of a colossal chimera, a formidable adversary they were determined to confront. As they approached a cavern entrance of significant size, they engaged in a brief but intense debate on their tactics.

Ultimately, the group reached a consensus: Komorebi would cast an invisibility sphere enveloping them, followed by an attempt to mimic the sounds of an aarakocra, hoping to lure out the chimera. Despite Komorebi’s uncertainty about the exact sounds an aarakocra made, the plan moved forward. Upon hearing the sounds, Edonna, shrouded in invisibility, inquired if there was an elephant nearby. The creatures within the cavern were pondering the same question.

To their astonishment, a variety of unusual beings emerged from the cave’s depths: two sky blue draco-wyvern beings, a forest drake, a formidable giant black chimera, and a white chimericore.

Taking advantage of their element of surprise, the team launched into action during the initial round of combat. Neko unleashed a fiery blast with a fireball, Komorebi inspired the group with courage, Jiraiya utilized dirty fighting tactics, Helg provided communal protection from energy, Edonna cast a prayer spell, while Khesen and Hekera embarked on a relentless melee assault. Caught completely off guard, the enemy suffered devastating injuries in a matter of moments. The giant chimera was swiftly dispatched before it could mount a defense. The drakes and draco-wyverns managed to land several hits, but Hekera boldly charged the chimericore. Despite the creature’s fierce resistance with claws, horns, and teeth, it couldn’t deter Hekera’s determined onslaught. After a series of devastating attacks, Edonna delivered the final blow with a voidmote spell.

Even Helg, not one to be left behind, joined the fray. With the advantage of surprise, the party maintained a dominant position throughout the battle. While they did sustain a few minor wounds, they demonstrated their capability to secure victory in the end.

Following the intense battle, the group discovered the lifeless remains of the aarakocra and a substantial mound of treasure. Without hesitation, they collected the gold, jewels, and a selection of magical items, including a valuable dragonbane scepter.

Chronoshift: Spelljammer — Game Session — 058

Game summary for September 26, 2023, Chronoshift: Spelljammer campaign, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Edonna Match Wushu Lu Klighke (Dragonborn Oracle played by Casey Scruggs), Hekera Nephera Mawhesk Vyk’sebekenka (Sebek-ka Fighter played by Preston Harmon), Jiraiya (Hurwaeti Freebooter played by Andrew Renfrow), Khesen Pavel (Human Brawler played by Parker Harmon), and Neko (Half-Orc Magus played by Peyton Harmon). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team rested and nursed their wounds before continuing on.  They then came across a forest-covered island and an obvious scene of an aarakocra having been slain and eaten.  They debarked the ship and investigated the scene.  An aarakocra had been killed and devoured.  They found tracks from multiple draconic creatures and a leonine creature all heading back into the woods.  They followed and were soon beset upon by a forest drake, a hieracosphinxicore, and two sky blue draco-wyverns!

Neko cast fireball and hit a tree enroute, causing it to explode early and badly burn two of his fellow party members and also knocked down the tree!  Jiraiya went tumbling through provoking attacks and counterstriking with his flayer flail while croaking.  Edonna cast powerful spell-up spells throughout the fight, such as haste and recitation, much to the team’s delight!  The forest drake spit an acid sphere that formed an obscuring cloud in the middle of the battlefield.  It then used its speed surge ability to dart around the battlefield and put pressure on the back line.  The hieracosphinxicore hurled its tail spikes at Khesen, but he was able to deflect one per round, which helped protect him from the full brunt of the attacks.  The draco-wyverns unleashed their frigid shocking breath weapons to great effect!

Jiraiya, Khesen, and Hekera used flanking maneuvers to allow Jiraiya to use dirty fighting.  One draco-wyvern grappled Hekera, but the fearsome warrior bit the creature to death with his crocodilian maw!  Khesen went toe-to-toe with the hieracosphinxicore and attempted to knock it out.  He failed to render it unconscious, but finally he just beat it to death.

Neko cast a horrifically effective mind thrust on the forest drake causing it to flee in terror for its life.  Edonna protected herself with a blessed mantle, and Jiraiya tried to confuse a foe with his flayer flail.  Having driven off the drake and killed the hieracosphinxicore, the draco-wyverns posed little further threat from the combined focus of attacks and were defeated.

The team examined the battlefield and found evidence something had been dragged further into the woods by more draconians.  They found a silver piece and a couple of gold coins along the trail as if someone’s pouch had ripped and was spilling out.

Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

Helg channeled positive energy to heal the team.  A few minutes later, they sailed into a cloudbank, and a flock of foes flew out.  Sky blue half-dragon pteranodons raked the ship overlapping breath weapons.  Freezing arching electricity washed over the team and crew.  Helg’s celestial heritage saved him from the worst of the effects, and Edonna used invisibility to avoid being seen.  She also made clever uses of prayer and bane spells.  Jiraiya ran up to the team’s newly acquired ballista of piercing and used its volley and lance features to blast numerous opponents.  Neko unleashed an impressive scorching ray, and Komorebi demoralized many enemies with blistering invective.  Khesen and Hekera made great use of their still-ongoing fly potions to take the battle to the monsters.  Komorebi used his wand of magic missiles while Helg cast flame strike.  With an outstanding display of teamwork, the group took down all of their assailants.

Edonna decided to try and cast scrying on the dragon and succeeded!  She saw the dragon consuming an aarakocra and roaring at a nearby chimera.  A few moments later, a half-dragon aarakocra approached and kneeled, calling the dragon “Father.”  It mentioned a nearby ship not well guarded by the lizard men, and the dragon told them to gather the troops and take it.  Edonna also caught a glimpse of a flame drake.  Then, the dragon curled up in its ice cave atop a heaping mound of treasure and went to sleep.

A while later, a pair of dirigible octopi floated out of the clouds along with a manticore.  The octopi tried grappling several of the party.  Their tentacles also proved to be electrified.  Meanwhile, the manticore riddled Edonna with electrified spikes forcing her to consume her whisk away admixture to escape the onslaught.  Komo and Neko hit the creatures with spells while Hekera and Khesen consumed potions to allow them to fly.  Neko got thrown overboard, but due to the gravity field around the ship, he bobbed up and down and blasted scorching ray with abandon.

Hekera and Khesen, now mobile, tore into the creatures while spells continued to flow.  As quickly as it started, the fight was over.

The team sent Edonna shopping for supplies while they clarified the final details with Ezrelda.  They then went to rent a cage to hold a dragon and found a dwarf near the docks who traffics in large animal imports (mostly for food).  He rented them a massive cage and hauled it to the docks for them while they went and bought chains and two muzzles.  They hooked up their barge to the drakkar vessel they are using.  They decided to see if they could hire the ship’s normal crew for this mission and located them at the Rockrat, the seediest tavern in all of Bral.  At the door, the met Grinder, the ogre doorman.  He “swindled” them out of several copper pieces as a cover charge.  The team was amused at his “cleverness” and paid him even more coppers than he asked, much to his delight.  Inside, they found the place lived up to its reputation.  It was rowdy, bawdy, and appalling.  In one corner, seven men and women were gathered around a table singing a rousing drinking song from the great bard, Blackheart Joan.

It goes good with the hard times and good with the bad times
Good with the fun times and good with the sad times
So always remember when ya done all ya could
That whiskey don’t go bad, whiskey goes good

Komorebi recognized this chorus and joined them in the third verse.  They learned this is the crew they were looking for, a bunch of Vikings and followers of the Revelry pantheon.  The group was well into their liquor.  They introduced themselves as Bella, Ella, Stella, Dorn, Bjorn, Lorne, and Jorn, and to celebrate meeting the party, they drank!  Helg convinced them to hire on as crew for 210 gp for a week, but if they succeed in capturing the dragon they will instead pay 500 gp.  To celebrate their new business arrangement, they drank!  The party joined in.  Alcohol flowed.  Questionable decisions were made.  Jiraiya may have spent the evening with Ella.  Or was it Stella?  Perhaps Bella?  Maybe it was several; memories are fuzzy.

The next day the team loaded up the ship with their provisions and cage (covering it with a tarp).  Stella (yes, it was Stella, she’s the helmswoman) piloted the ship toward Coliar.  They flew to their rendezvous point with the Donakkis Flock and met with Nylek, a local leader.  He told them what he could of the sky blue dragon, Freylass Icedeath.  The aggressive beast is raiding their trade lanes alongside its half-dragon spawn.  Nylek told them it seems to breed with everything, and Coliar is known to be home to dangerous monsters like chimeras, manticores, sphinxes, drakes, wyverns, and so forth.

The group headed toward the region Nylek said the dragon haunts.  Along the way they encountered a roc!  The massive bird of prey set off in pursuit of the vessel, and the team scrambled to try and outrun and outmaneuver the monster.  With its size, it was certainly capable of ripping the ship apart.  While fleeing, the group flew through a swarm of wasps!  The party was stung repeatedly, but the wasps were quickly left behind.  Next the group flew into a thundercloud!  Though drenched, and Hekera blasted with lightning, the team was able to emerge from the cloud out of sight of the roc and escape!

Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.

The team left Waterdeep and flew back to Bral.  There they met with Lodan from House Eirenfezt and sold the five tressym.  Out on the street they ran into some children who heard rumors of their exploits and asked what they call themselves.  They came up with the SCC, Subterranean Conquest Crew.  They then went to Shou Town and paid to alter and upgrade some armor for Hekera which would be available in a few days.  Helg negotiated a deal to sell a lot of their Undermountain spoils.  Next, they returned to the Laughing Beholder where Daiyu was on stage singing.  They sat down to hear her perform, ordered a meal and Thayan red, and invited the Red Wizard Halava Trent and her bodyguard Nethriss to the table.  They sold her the two best weapons they recovered from Undermountain for four very expensive emeralds.

Halava and Nethriss left to address other business, and the team settled in to enjoy their meal and fine liquor.  Nearly two hours later, a dazzling woman in black and blue cosmic robes walked in.  Spiked hair ran down the center of her head, and blue tattoos were visible on the shaved sides of her scalp.  Her smiling lips were covered in blue lipstick.  She introduced herself as Ezrelda of the Cobalt Flame, a member of Xenotermination, Ltd.  Komorebi had heard of them, a group of very high-end mercenaries.

Ezrelda told them they were seeking to subcontract a mission to the planet Coliar on behalf of the Donakkis Flock aarakocra.  The flock wanted Xenotermination, Ltd. to get rid of a rare sky blue dragon terrorizing them.  The mercenaries want to collect on the bounty, but they have upped the ante.  They want the party to not kill but capture the dragon!  They will pay for the dead dragon but more for taking it alive.  Apparently, the dragon is also breeding with native denizens of Coliar, and the team got Ezrelda to agree to pay for any of them captured as well.  For the mission, the Xenos had arranged for them to use a spelljammer-converted drakkar.  The team decided to take the job and immediately began planning how to catch and transport a large dragon.
