Game summary for January 7, 2020, Into The Shadows campaign, Shadowrun 5th Edition, for Phoenix Gaming Club. Session included: Ballyhoo (Human Augmenter played by Andrew Renfrow), Clutch (Human Transport Rigger played by Peyton Harmon), Dell (Human Technomancer played by Shane Bradley), Hollywood (Human Combat Medic played by Chris Harmon), and Octane (Elf Razor played by Casey Scruggs). Game Master for this session was Charles Plemons.
The team piled into the elevator as both Dell and Clutch tried desperately to hack it. Finally, they succeeded, and it ascended to the 55th floor. The group piled out, and Octane used his foam explosives to blow up the stairs in the two stairwells before the guards could make it to the top while the others jammed the elevator doors open with office furniture. Octane then rigged the elevator to blow in case they needed it to. The group then went out and hid under the helipad awaiting the chopper.
The helicopter landed, and two armed men emerged obviously having trouble with their comms with building security. VP Muller was quickly ushered off the roof and into the stairwell. The team emerged and hijacked the helicopter from the pilot. They plunged off the roof right as one of the guards returned and opened fire.
The group cheered as they began to speed off into the night. However, one of the building windows exploded outward as a western dragon burst forth and took up pursuit! It lashed the chopper with flaming breath, badly damaging the vehicle, but Clutch was able to keep it aloft. Octane threw open the door, and the team unleashed a barrage of bullets and spells at the dragon. Some struck true, others bounced off its thick scales. Ballyhoo hit it with magic as Clutch began to outpace it. Out of range of its breath, the dragon hurled spells of its own. It knocked Dell unconscious and rocked the chopper. Again Clutch’s expert piloting skills kept them airborne and moving. With some impressive maneuvering, he dodged around buildings and left the dragon far behind! The group then headed out to sea to rendezvous with the Ares vessel to make the drop.
I catch up with the group, who are significantly bruised now, but have collected the data.
Dell and Clutch both begin attempting to hack the elevator to take us back to the roof.
Meanwhile, in the real word, we hear guards approaching.
After a few moments, Dell makes progress. We all climb in the elevator. A couple more attempts and Dell gets the elevator to jerk into motion.
We make it to the top level and begin discussing how to hole up and secure the area for the next 20 minutes or so, until the helicopter arrives.
Dell and Clutch send their drones into the stairwells to stay on guard for security reinforcements. We restrict the elevators doors from closing.
I rig up some explosives in one of the stairwells and set them off. Before I can setup explosives in the other stairwell, Dell’s drone alerts him that some rather exhausted guards are on their way up.
I decide to rig the explosives in the stairwell and Hollywood lays suppressive fire. This, however, backfires, giving the guards adrenaline and they return fire. Thankfully, I’m able to complete the setup and trigger the explosive.
I then rig a remote detonation on the elevator cables, as a just in case precaution.
Confident that the guards won’t be able to get to us, and only five minutes before the helicopter is set to arrive, we go to the rooftop and hide under the raised landing pad.
When the helicopter lands, the guards exit and make sure the path to the stairwell is secure. They do not see us and escort the VP inside. We immediately get into the helicopter and pull out the pilot.
Clutch sits in the pilot’s seat and takes off. One of the escorts runs back out and opens fire, but misses. However, before we are free, a dragon flies out of the 55th floor of the building and breathes fire on the helicopter.
Hollywood, Dell, and myself all open fire on the dragon and do a little bit of damage. Ballyhoo then casts acid stream at it and also hurts it.
Clutch is able to put some distance between us and the dragon.
The dragon then spits acid at me and does some moderate damage. Once again, Hollywood, Dell, and I fire again, doing minor damage. The dragon then spits acid at Hollywood and knocks him unconscious.
I empty my clip but do not hit. He then casts a lightning bolt at the helicopter and does some damage, but Clutch is able to keep it airborne.
Ballyhoo casts another acid stream and Hollywood keeps firing.
Clutch puts some more distance between us, allowing us to escape.
Now that we are safe, Hollywood and Ballyhoo cast heal on Dell to stabilize her and bring her back to consciousness.
Clutch flies us to the meetup, but the stimpatches effects run out first, knocking Dell out again.
